A Tip Off from Bryan

Surfing Krui, you need to be adventurous. There might be some waves undiscovered somewhere. If you are sick of crowded waves, and you feel like getting the fuck out of that wave, then you need to find your own wave.

Surfs in Krui vary in big from 1 meter to 5 meter high. The smallest waves are usually in Labuhan Jukung (Krui town), while the biggest usually occur at Jimmys.

Brian Berg an old hand at Krui surfs told me about other big waves that remain undiscovered as alternative options. Below are his notes that I take from his e-mails.

The pictures above are not the location

If the swells have been 4-8 foot lately around Krui that's fantastic surf; in Hawaii an 8 foot wave is a 4-5 metre face; big surf!!!! Sometimes surfers will talk about the face size so an 8 foot wave is a 4 foot Hawaiian wave; it's all confusing. Have you been down to Karang Nyimbor or the left point in Krui to watch the surf? If the surf actually gets to Hawaiian 8 foot sets the biggest waves around are usually on the outside sandbar ( 'bank' in Bahasa Australia) between Way Napal and Lintik; about 2 km from Lintik parking lot. The two times I've watched big waves there the outside is probably triple overhead but I've never heard of anyone surfing it; you can let the tourist sufers know about that spot if they think they are big waveriders. Well, an 8 foot Hawaiian wave is a little less than a 5 metre face but not much; it's not exact. A 1 metre face is about a 3 foot face and a 1metre wave is about a 6 foot face (ha,ha ha; but it's all true). Jimmy's has been known to hold a 20 foot face (I've heard but never seen) which is a 10-12 foot Hawaiian wave. (Brian, 8 Agustus 2009)

The big sandbar break between Way Nepal and Lintik has no parking lot unless you ride a bike through the scrubs but Way Napal is between the beach and the scrub (there's one old fashioned footbridge in the area). You have to walk about 1 1/2 km either from Lintik parking lot where the fence is or from the Way Napal rivermouth; when it has'nt been raining much it's easy to ride a motorbike to the river mouth plus it's very relaxed around there.
