This is
the first time I took pictures of Karang Nyimbur surf (Ujung Bocor). Though 22
km is not too far, but it’s far enough when you are not motivated, as surfers
who stay in town feel it too. Luckily, as it always is, Karang Nyimbur was working
this morning, and it was quite big. It was about 3 to 5 feet and there were 12
to 15 surfers in the water.
Although
the swells weren’t the biggest it can get, but the surfers enjoyed it very
much. And since the swells kept on coming consistently, each surfers have their
own wave to ride on. And since the waves are long enough to end up at the shore,
many surfers who rode the waves all the way round ended up at the shore and
decided not to paddle back to the surfs. And that’s the end of one session.
“I
gonna get back to the surf,” said one Spanish surfer who had just washed away
to the shore after taking some rest and talking to his wife who were taking pictures with her professional camera.
However,
it was getting smaller at about ten o’clock, and this surfer who talked to me
told me that it wouldn’t get bigger again. “Maybe tomorrow,” he said.
Turning
a little further down south, Way Jambu, I saw nobody in the surf but two
surfers paddling their way out of the
water, and some other surfers who already got to the beach. It was the end of
the session, and I was late. But, not long after that, there were two other
surfers coming. After checking the waves a little, they decided to take the
surf, and parked their bike in the wooden fence (in Way Jambu there is a
parking fence managed by locals where you can park your bikes while surfing,
and you will be charged for it).
And so
they were the only surfers that I saw in Way Jambu this morning. “Have you just
surfed at other place, Mister,” I asked one of them before they got into the
water.
“Yes,
at Mandiri,” he replied.
“How many
surfers were surfing there with you?”
“Only
us two….”
But when
I checked Mandiri on may way back home at about 12:30, I saw three or four
surfers in the water.
