Meet Amy

I wouldn’t be surprised if a surfer took over me with his bike. I am not a fast bike rider, though. And some surfers ride like crazy. What surprised me so much is that it wasn’t a he, it’s a she. Yes, it was a lady with a surfboard on the rack. I've never seen a lady ride her own bike in this town before. Most ladies that I’ve ever seen on a bike were doubled by their boyfriend.

It was near Krui Left, and I followed her from the back.

“You ride well,” I said when he stopped under a lower coconut tree, and I did stop behind her.

She was first like taken aback by what she heard. She might first thought that it’s Indonesian words that she heard, and tried to figure out what it means. But no sooner than she realized that it was in English, she smiled.

“You’re probably the first tourist lady bike rider that I’ve ever met here,” I said

She smiled.

“Oh, really?”
Amy (It must be her)

I found that she is the kind of lady who is easy to talk, and does not reserve once you start the conversation. And so we talked. And I enjoyed talking to somebody like her very much. Not only because she likes talking, she's got an open mind, I guess.

“Where do you learn English? Your English is very good,” she asked while started changing her outfit into a wetsuit. She couldn't wait to join the six or seven people at the Left.

And this is the question that’s been addressed to me thousand of times.

Thank to someone like this lady, I’ve learnt more English, and improved my speaking. I always respect those people who is easy to talk and smile and speak to me willingly in a friendly manner as long as I don’t rob their time. Some people reply reluctantly and turn their head and feel like I am robbing their time. Sure I don’t rob their time. And I don’t mean it either. I never prevent them from doing what they are going to do.

“What’s your name?” I asked.

“Amy.”

“OK. It’s nice to meet you. See you later,” She said. She put her outfits in the bagage under the saddle, locked the handle,  and rushed to the surf.

Bye, Amy. See you next time.
