Here Comes the Carnival

Carnival is an extravagant parade held prior to Independence Day in Krui, Lampung Barat, South Sumatera, Indonesia. It usually held on the D-day, August 17, as the wrap up of all the August festivals. But this year, the carnival come way earlier since August 2011 co-occur with Ramadhan, the Moslem holy month, and the fasting month which Moslem people restraint from making such a hectic activity under the scorching sun.

The carnival is the media where schools and organizations can show off their achievements, their goals, or what they plan to do to people. If they don’t, they just can show the traditional customs or just wave their organization banners, or just do whatever they want to do to show off.

Thus, the carnival is an event where you can see many traditional wedding dresses or stages of traditional wedding ceremony performed in the street by school students, mixed with becak (the three cycles) with kids wearing jolly looking traditional wedding attires and many kinds of flag waving in the air.

This year carnival is most joyful and gaily with most participants compared to years before.
