The local Government of Lampung Barat plans to have a test flight on Krui airport by the end of September 2011, according to an official statement. “If everything is OK, we will have our first flight by the end of this September,” Drs. Mukhlis Basrie, MM, the premiere of Lampung Barat reported as saying. The flight will start from Halim Perdana Kusuma airport in Jakarta.

At the time being, the local Government is awaiting for the legal flight permit from the Department of Transportation in Jakarta to start operating the airport. If the legal permission is not granted yet, the airport cannot be operated. Meanwhile, preparation prior to the test flight is being done.

The local people has long been awaiting for airport to be operated. Although they will probably not use the airport to fly, but they hope the airport can contribute to the development of the local economy in one way or another.

From tourism point of view, Krui airport is a very strategic infrastructure. It is the answer of transportation problems that is more or less hinders the development of tourism so far, as complained by travel agents and the tourists. Hopefully, the airport can increase the number of tourist to Lampung Barat.
