June Heats 8: Karang Nyimbur

Karang Nyimbur was busier this morning. Though the surf wasn’t very big, but there were more surfers by the beach, watching. It was a surfing competition day, the surfers in the water were the contestant, while those by the beach were hooters and spectators, and the organizers.

The surfing contest was actually a part of Tanjung Setia Festival. It’s a festival agenda held annually by the local government as a mean to promote the tourism industry in the area. Beside surfing contest, there is also a swimming contest, spear-gun-fishing contest, sport contest, and many things in the festival. The contestants can be foreigners or locals which is separated in their own category. But when I checked the surfing contest this morning, from 9 o’clock to 12 o’clock, I saw no local contestants. They may have contested earlier in the morning perhap, so as not to mix with the foreign contestants.

Tanjung Setia Festival is held every year, but you cannot say for sure on what month. Last year, the festival was held on July 9, while in 2010 it was held on September.  And nobody can say on what month it will be held next year. So if you come back to Krui again any time next year, just get ready for the festival.
